Park Güell and Casa Vicens

Park Güell and Casa Vicens sit about 1.1 km apart as the crow flies, and the walk between them runs mostly downhill past Lesseps metro. Book Park Güell for the morning and Casa Vicens for about two hours later, and you see Gaudí's first house and his park in one half-day.

Both sites belong to the same story. Casa Vicens was built in the separate town of Gràcia in the 1880s, and pieces of its palm-leaf iron fence later went up the hill to Park Güell, where Gaudí himself lived for nearly 20 years. Today they are two of the easiest Gaudí visits to pair: one big open park with views, one small house full of colour.

This guide gives the order to do them in, how to get from one to the other, the ticket rules at Park Güell, what to see in Gràcia in between and a sample plan.

The quick answer

Do Park Güell first, then walk down. Park Güell's official site puts Lesseps (L3) about 20 minutes on foot from the park, and Casa Vicens is about 300 m from Lesseps, so allow roughly 20 to 25 minutes, mostly downhill. Buses H6 and D40 also link the two. Book both: Park Güell (€18) sells timed slots with no cancellations, and Casa Vicens (€22, Barcelona City Council's listings) is timed too. On GetYourGuide, the Park Güell guided tour starts at US$28 and the Casa Vicens ticket at US$27.

Can you visit Park Güell and Casa Vicens in one day?

Easily, in a morning or an afternoon. Allow about 4 hours in all: up to 1 hour 30 minutes in the park, 25 minutes to walk down, 60 to 75 minutes at Casa Vicens and a coffee in Gràcia.

Here is a plan that works in any season, built on the official opening times: Park Güell visitor slots run from 9:30 to 19:30, and Casa Vicens opens at 9:00 every day.

Should you visit Park Güell or Casa Vicens first?

Park Güell first. The walk from the park to Casa Vicens runs downhill, and in our experience the park is cooler and quieter in the first slots of the morning.

Going up to the park from Casa Vicens is the harder direction: the streets climb steeply on the last stretch. If you start at Casa Vicens anyway (it opens at 9:00, 30 minutes before the first Park Güell visitor slot), ride up on the H6 or D40 bus to Travessera de Dalt, which Park Güell's site puts about 10 minutes from the park.

From elsewhere in the city, the Bus Güell shuttle runs from Alfons X station (L4) to the park in about 15 minutes and is included in the park ticket.

How do you get from Park Güell to Casa Vicens?

Walk down to Lesseps metro, which Park Güell's official site puts about 20 minutes from the park, then on about 300 m to Casa Vicens. Or take bus H6 or D40.

The park's official advice is to use Lesseps (L3) via the escalator entrance on Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya. From Lesseps, Casa Vicens is a short walk to Carrer de les Carolines 20-26. Allow roughly 20 to 25 minutes door to door, more with photo stops. Skip Vallcarca for now: the park does not recommend it while the Baixada de la Glòria escalators are out of service.

The buses H6 and D40 stop on Travessera de Dalt below the park, and both are on Casa Vicens' bus list. If you would rather not walk at all, one metro stop on L3 from Lesseps to Fontana leaves you a few minutes from the door.

Time your Casa Vicens slot for about 2 hours after your Park Güell entry, and cancel free up to 24 hours before if the plan shifts.

Do you need a ticket for all of Park Güell?

Yes. Since 2020 the whole 12-hectare park is ticketed for visitors, at €18 for adults. Only residents enter free.

Regulated entry started in 2013 for the monumental area and was extended to the whole site in 2020. Tickets are timed: enter within 30 minutes of your slot, stay as long as you like, but no re-entry. Capacity is 1,400 visitors an hour, tickets are nominative and, on the official site, cannot be cancelled. Children up to 6 go free; ages 7 to 12 and over-65s pay €13.50.

The Park Güell guided tour solves the planning in one go: skip-the-line entry, a guide from the Barcelona Tourism Authority, headsets, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before, from US$28 with 4.7 stars from 23,263 reviews. The park is on a hill with a lot of walking, and with this ticket you go in with your guide, so be at Carretera del Carmel 23 on time. Guests like the ending: "At the end we could stay in the park as long as we wanted to explore further" (Andrew, Oct 2026).

What links Park Güell and Casa Vicens?

Gaudí's palm-leaf iron work: sections of Casa Vicens' palmetto fence were reused at Park Güell, and the Gaudí House Museum in the park has garden gates from Casa Vicens.

Sections of Casa Vicens' cast-iron fence of dwarf palmetto leaves were later reused at Park Güell. The Gaudí House Museum in the park, the house where Gaudí lived from 1906 to 1925, also has wrought-iron gates from Casa Vicens in its garden, along with furniture he designed. It reopened on 9 July 2024 after renovation and is visited on a combined ticket with the park.

2026 is a double anniversary here: Park Güell opened as a public park in 1926, and Gaudí died the same year.

What is there to see in Gràcia between the two?

Gràcia's squares, a 33 m bell tower, a modernista market and Casa Fuster. Gràcia was its own town until 1897, and it still feels like one.

  • Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia: a square with an octagonal bell tower of 33 m by Antoni Rovira i Trias, built from 1862 to 1864.
  • Plaça del Sol and Plaça de la Virreina: two more of Gràcia's squares, our pick for a long lunch.
  • Mercat de la Llibertat: a modernista market opened in 1893 and renovated in 2009, credited by the city to Miquel Pasqual i Tintorer, Gràcia's municipal architect. He is the same official who approved the Casa Vicens plans in 1883.
  • Casa Fuster: by Lluís Domènech i Montaner (1908 to 1910), a hotel since 2004, at the southern edge of the district.

Gràcia is Barcelona's smallest district by area, 4.2 km², with over 120,000 residents.

When is the Festa Major de Gràcia?

In mid-August: from 15 to 21 August in 2026, with nearly 900 activities and the famous decorated streets.

The festival dates back to 1817, and its best-known part is the decorated-streets competition. Casa Vicens gives its own special prize; in 2026 it went to Plaça de Rovira, and the house ran discounts during the festival week.

Expect busy streets around Casa Vicens all week. For a calmer visit that week, book a morning slot, then head into the decorated streets once the house is done.

Is there a tour that covers Park Güell and the Gaudí houses?

Yes. The Complete Gaudí Tour includes Casa Batlló, the Sagrada Família and, as an option, Park Güell, from US$157. For Casa Vicens itself, pair the park tour with the house ticket.

The Complete Gaudí Tour runs 3 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours 30 minutes depending on the option, with a local English-speaking guide, pre-reserved tickets for Casa Batlló and the Sagrada Família, Park Güell skip-the-line entry if you choose that option, and La Pedrera from outside. It does not include Casa Vicens.

For the Gràcia pairing, the simplest booking is the Park Güell guided tour in the morning plus the Casa Vicens ticket a couple of hours later. With a guide at the house too, the Casa Vicens guided tour starts at the same US$27.
